SCARBOROUGH Athletic crashed to a 3-1 home defeat against Evo-Stik League Premier Division promotion rivals Farsley Celtic.

Farsley had the best possible start at the Flamingo Land Stadium as Jimmy Spencer gave them a fourth-minute lead. The striker slotted in from close range after Nathan Cartman had rolled a through ball into the area.

Having started the half well they finished it in the same positive way as Spencer bagged his brace just before the break. A good move involving Chris Atkinson, Cartman and Luke Parkin culminated in the latter crossing to the far post and Spencer added an acrobatic finish.

The Seadogs had a good spell early in the second half and had the ball in the net following a 52nd-minute corner only to have their celebrations muted by an offside flag.

Soon after that Boro’s James Walshaw, the former Farsley marksman, went close with an angled drive that whizzed past the far post. But the Celts ensured the win with a third goal and Spencer was the provider as his ball through the six yard box was turned in by Dave Sayers.

The Seadogs’ skipper Michael Coulson pulled a goal back with a good finish 18 minutes from time.

In Division One, Pickering Town's five-month unbeaten away run came to an end with a 3-1 loss at Sheffield in a feisty encounter where yellow cards doubled the goals tally. Town's consolation came in the 85th minute with Adam Lund's first goal for the club.

Pikes stay 15th in the table but with only four points separating the bottom seven.

Knaresborough Town grabbed a 1-1 home draw against Garforth Town in Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division on an emotional day for the club.

The hosts held a minute's silence in memory of club president Terry Hewlett, who died the day before the game.

Nathan Perks' 15th-minute strike was enough to condemn Selby Town to a 1-0 defeat at Glasshoughton Welfare in Division One.

Lewis Riley's strike in the fourth minute of added time gave Harrogate Railway Athletic a 3-2 win over Barton Town.

Tom Marsden and Fraser Lancaster scored Railway's other two goals.
