MATT Overton and Mychaell Da Silva goals could not prevent York Futsal from losing 3-2 at home to Team United of Birmingham in the FA Super League.

The match was marred by controversial refereeing decisions, with the first seeing Robbie Bettson denied a blatant penalty when the offence was adjudged to have taken place outside the box.

Daniel Pedras was also hacked down when clear on goal, but the assailant only saw yellow instead of red and Martin Sowerby’s fierce free kick was well saved as the first half ended 0-0.

York went on to take a 24th-minute lead, courtesy of a brilliant breakaway goal, with Robbie Bettson catching the Birmingham defence napping, before teeing up Overton for a simple tap-in.

The visitors drew level, though, when a sloppy pass saw Birmingham finish neatly past Martin Michels.

A moment of refereeing madness then proved the game’s pivotal moment. Jamie Bettson clearly fouled a Birmingham player, with the referee blowing his whistle, only for an away player to shoot past a stationary Michels and the goal was allowed to stand.

The Midlanders went on to have a player sent off for a body check on Robbie Bettson, but forged further in front when another ball across court was intercepted and Michels left exposed.

In the last minute, Pedras beat the wide defender before firing the ball across the area for De Silva to finish smartly.

Pedras’ ferocious volley was also tipped over by the Birmingham keeper during the dying seconds.
