A SHAMBOLIC first-half defensive display cost Selby Town as they fell 3-2 at home to Northern Counties East League strugglers Harworth Colliery.

Liam Flanagan scored twice after the break as the Robins put in a spirited second-half show but it was not enough to stop second-bottom Harworth claiming only a second away league win of term.

Promotion hopefuls Selby fielded a much-changed line-up, with Gareth Dickinson replacing the injured Pete Lawrie in goal behind centre-backs George Foster-Vigors - making his first start of term - and new signing Joe Dunnett.

From the kick off, Harworth pressed aggressively and took less than two minutes to silence the Flaxley Road faithful as Ben Partridge ran onto a ball over the top and placed it beyond Dickinson.

Harworth continued to press and, before the quarter-hour, former Pickering Town and Tadcaster Albion player Dunnett conceded a penalty after catching a Harworth forward when scrambling to cover an attack down the right. Mark West converted the spot kick.

The day was to get worse for debutant Dunnett as he conceded a free kick just outside the area from which Mason Barlow fired beyond Dickinson to ensure a healthy half-time lead for the visitors.

Selby upped the tempo in the second half, pushing Harworth deeper and deeper, and took just eight minutes to get a goal back as promising 17-year-old Lucas Wilson played a clever ball for Flanagan to plant past keeper Samuel Jepson.

With just over 10 minutes remaining, a Selby free kick was ruled to have been handled in the area and Flanagan added to his tally from the spot, finding the corner of the net.

The equaliser, however, was not forthcoming, with Fraser Hansen, Gary Collier and Wilson all having efforts go unrewarded.

Selby: Dickinson, Ramsay, Snoding, Bilton, Foster-Vigors, Dunnett, Collier, Clamp, Flanagan, Stewart, Hutton. Subs: Wilson, Boyle, Pearse, Hansen, Lawrence.
