OLD Malton St Mary's cut the gap to York Minster Engineering League premier division leaders Huntington Rovers to just one point thanks to a 6-0 thrashing of Tadcaster Magnets.

Rovers were in North Riding County FA Saturday County Cup action - beating local rivals Wigginton Grasshoppers 3-1 to reach the semi-finals.

And this allowed St Mary's to close on in, still with another game in hand, as Steve Baxter (2), Jack Simpson, Ryan Boyd, Damon Cox and Dean Nuttall all found the net against Magnet.

The revival at Osbaldwick continued as the bottom club collected a point from their home game with high-flying Dringhouses.

Jack Brimmell gave Osso the lead before Cameron Mulhearn struck to earn Houses a point from a 1-1 draw.

Osbaldwick still need to win at least half of their remaining eight games to have any chance of avoiding the drop.

Dunnington moved up to fourth place after a brace from Tom Anderson and an own goal helped them to a 3-1 success over Copmanthorpe, for whom Ben Jones scored.

Sporting Knavesmire twice came from behind to level with visitors Thorpe United, but could not manage it a third time with the Selby side emerging from the game with a 3-2 victory.

Tom Owen and Andrew Simpson netted for Knavesmire with Paul Moran, Luke Crowther and Matthew Howden firing home for Thorpe.

Hemingbrough United took the lead against Church Fenton in the first half, but Scott Nicholas bagged an equaliser shortly after the restart.

Late goals from Josh Tinker and Jonah Beecher secured the points for the away side, a win that gives Fenton a realistic chance of a top-three finish.

F1 led at Kirkbymoorside after 30 minutes thanks to a tidy finish from Liam King. F1 keeper Adam Wilson then made a great penalty save after the interval, only to see Kirkby level matters on the breakaway shortly afterwards.

F1 regrouped and King hit a spectacular strike to make it 2-1 before a good team move saw Paul Bentley add a third towards the end of the game.

Meanwhile, in the Saturday County Cup, Huntington wasted several good early chances to go ahead against the reigning Minster League champions and found themselves behind when a pinpoint cross from Gary Newton saw Dale Holding power an unstoppable header into the goal.

However, barely 60 seconds later, Josh Hutchinson picked up the ball 25 yards from the Wiggy goal and powered a rocket of a shot into the far side of the net, giving keeper Michael Clancy no chance.

A defensive mix-up then allowed James Edmond in to flick the ball home and make it 2-1 to Rovers before Danny Gray gave them some breathing space midway through the second half as Wigginton continued to press for an equaliser.

Pocklington moved 10 points clear at the top of division one as they pipped Easingwold Town 2-1 while second-placed Strensall were being shocked 4-1 by Heworth, despite Joshua Winn being sent off for the victors.

Ben Potter and Jake Dunham got Pock's goals, with Jonathan Charters replying for Easingwold.

Heworth's marksmen were Liam Neale and John Moore, who both bagged braces. Chris Johnson scored for Strensall.

Stamford Bridge missed the chance to go top of division two as they were held to a 3-3 draw by Ryedale rivals Brooklyn.

Leaders The Beagle lost 1-0 at Pollington with Bridge moving to within a point of them after this draw.

Man-of-the-match Adam Harrison, Terry Taylor and Shane Laverick were on target for Stamford, with Mike Linsley, star performer Robin Goforth and sub Matthew Bean scoring for Brooklyn.

Rufforth leapt above Bridge on goal-difference into second place after a 6-0 thrashing of Wilberfoss.

Wombleton Wanderers closed to within two points of division three leaders Wheldrake thanks to a 5-2 win over promotion rivals Heslington while the table-toppers were losing by the same scoreline to Helperby, a side who sit in the bottom half but could get into the title mix if they win their games in hand.

Swinton got their third win of term by beating bottom team Stillington Sports & Social Club 4-1.
