THE evening action in the York Minster Engineering League continued on Wednesday – with the main focus being the relegation battle at the bottom of the premier division.

Sporting Knavesmire now find themselves in a precarious position after a 4-2 defeat at fellow strugglers Copmanthorpe who have put six points between themselves and the drop zone.

The first half was frantic and saw all of the goals – Ben Jones hitting a brace for Cop, with single strikes added by Danny Leach and Tom Paley.

Mike Eddom and George Wilson struck for Knavesmire but, despite further chances in the second period, they could not force their way back to gain a favourable result.

Poppleton United also gained a bit of breathing space as Kevin Luke's last minute winner gave them a 2-1 success at Hemingbrough, whom they leapfrogged into tenth position. Will Edmond scored the other goal for the visitors.

Tadcaster Magnets continued their incredible run of form, defeating third-placed Osbaldwick 2-0 to move up to ninth position and virtually assure top flight survival.

Dringhouses fell behind at Church Fenton after ten minutes but quickly recovered as Joe Rawcliffe fired home from a corner to level the scores. Cameron Loftus gave 'Houses a half-time lead with the game being settled by a Cameron Sanderson brace, the defender sealing a 4-1 triumph.

In division one, James Rudd gave Pocklington Town the lead after racing onto a through ball and chipping the Cliffe goalkeeper midway through the first half.

Their lead was doubled when Chris Saltmer nodded home. Tom Collins scored a consolation for Cliffe late in the game. Pocklington need just five points from four games to be assured of second spot.

Haxby Town progressed through round three of the League Junior Cup with a 3-1 success at Barmby Moor.

On Monday evening, two goals from Michael Martin saw York RI gain an unlikely 2-1 Reserve Cup win over Poppleton United. Matthew Hodges hit back for Poppy.

In the premier league, Copmanthorpe gained a vital point from their home game with Huntington Rovers.

Ben Jones gave Cop a half-time lead, with Tom Metcalfe levelling for the away team from the penalty spot.

Danny Penrose netted for Osbaldwick but his team were already some way adrift of Dunnington who ran out 4-1 winners.

A Sam Parkinson hat-trick saw Reserve A Pocklington Town home in their clash with Church Fenton, the away side winning 3-1.

Dringhouses rounded off their Reserve B season with a 6-5 win over Heworth while Jason Hogg (3) and Jacob Green delivered the goods for Harrison Signs in a 4-2 triumph over Bishopthorpe United. Richard Matthews and Tom Russell were on target for Bish.

Wilberfoss returned to the top of Reserve C on goal difference after a 5-5 draw with Rufforth United. Daniel Witcombe (3), Sonthaya Phabpho and Jack Halmshaw bagged for Rufforth.
