THE University of York Women’s team were unlucky 1-0 losers at Leeds.
In a goal-less first half, the visitors’ back-line of Alisha Miller, Megan Vasey, Karli Smith, Louise Plant and Gabby Killeen held firm to keep Leeds at bay.
Miller, in particular, impressed by superbly blocking an effort with her head from close-range.
Further forward, Kayleigh Peters led the line for York and worked tirelessly, chasing down every ball and putting the Leeds defence under pressure.
The home side went on to throw more players forward during the second half in an attempt to unlock the York defence, but couldn’t find a way through the ever-present Smith and Vasey.
Injury to Killeen, meanwhile, saw Hannah Coppillie moved across from midfield to left back and she made some important challenges throughout the rest of the half.
But the home side eventually got their goal when York keeper Batte misjudged a ball into the box, allowing the Leeds striker to tap into an empty net. York still rallied and Peters was only denied a goal by a last-ditch tackle.
