HOUNDS lifted the Fastpack York Sunday Morning League Cup after beating York Nomads 3-2 on penalties.

The scores had earlier finished 3-3 after extra time with the lead changing hands twice in a thrilling final at Barkston Ash.

Shoot-out defeat meant Nomads missed out on a hat-trick of final victories having already lifted the York FA and North Riding County Cups this term.

But Hounds’ win means they have also now completed a cup double.

In the first half of the final, both teams had chances, but Hounds drew first blood when Thomas Hogg headed in from a corner.

There was no further additions to the score before the break, even though both sides had chances to find the net.

The second half then saw both teams find their scoring boots.

Joe Dale converted an equalising penalty and Samson Wildwood put Nomads in the ascendancy with a quarter-of-an-hour of normal time to play.

But a Sam Cable reply ensured the scores were level at the end of 90 minutes.

Hounds went back in front during the first period of extra time as Hogg scored a second goal.

He was also only denied a hat-trick of headers by the base of a post shortly afterwards.

A Danny Snaith effort in the second half of extra time went on to ensure the final went all the way.

Hounds keeper Dave Bramley was then the hero of the shootout, saving three penalties to share the man-of-the-match honours with Hogg.

In midweek, meanwhile, Hounds secured the league’s runners-up spot following a 7-1 mauling of Marcia Bishopthorpe.

Hogg led the way again by hitting a hat-trick. Cable, Christopher Jackson, Shaun Heslewood and Luke Pearce were the other marksmen.
