THE pick of the ties in the York FA Saturday Senior Cup saw third in the league Sporting Knavesmire pitted against second-placed Wigginton Grasshoppers.

Wigginton opened the scoring on 30 minutes through Jamie Wilstrop, but Sporting hit back a minute later through Ben Lock.

An Alex Dale penalty put Sporting in the lead and Dale scored again on the rebound to make the score 3-1 at the break.

Wigginton hit back twice to level the score, but it was left to a Jack Duckworth deflected shot to give Sporting a 4-3 victory and passage to the semi-finals.

Poppleton went 2-0 down at home to Thorpe United but eventually forced a penalty shoot-out – only to lose 5-4 on spot-kicks.

Osbaldwick, with goals from Danny Penrose and Andrew Bilton, hung on to put out Old Malton 2-1, and Dunnington went through 3-0 winners against Church Fenton with goals from Marcos Garcia, Brad Swainston and Alex Wilson.

In the Saturday Junior Cup, Kanyi Sainey got a brace and Sam Ripley-Kitson also netted as Dringhouses Reserves beat Barmby Moor 3-2.

A young Easingwold Town side hit Malton and Norton Reserves for six who scored two in reply.

Easingwold’s Josh Cryer grabbed a hat-trick, and Tom Rushworth, Josh Sargent and Ollie Longbottom scored one each.

It was 6-2 between Moor Lane and Church Fenton Reserves, with Moor Lane's scorers Patrick Zimmer (2), Daniel Zimmer, Andy Kenyan, Dave Dawson and Lewis Bootland.

In the third 6-2 result of the day, Huntington Rovers Reserves beat Heworth Green.

Ash Hill (2), Ben Thompson, Pete Laidlaw, Rhidian Mansfield and Chris Thompson scored one each for Huntington, with Heworth's goals by Dan Marshall and John Moore.

Strensall went three-up through Charlie Coopland (2) and Jack Bell, but Pocklington Town 3rds made it an exciting finish, scoring two in the last ten minutes.
