WIGGINTON Grasshoppers edged into the quarter-finals of the York City and District FA Saturday Senior Cup after a 4-3 thriller at Dringhouses.

The away side took the lead after 24 minutes when Jordan Holt slid the ball home after an initial header from a corner was saved.

Dringhouses then produced a free-flowing move down the left which saw James Green draw the scores level three minutes later, but Holt fired home his second from a Neale Holmes corner to give the visitors the lead at the interval.

The game looked over after 57 minutes when Matthew Tiplady lobbed the Dring goalkeeper from 25 yards, but despite several chances immediately after, Wigginton could not put the tie to bed.

Dringhouses fought back and a magnificent solo goal from Jordan Outerbridge saw him sell the keeper a dummy before putting the ball through his legs. Green then added his second and Houses' third with a volley from a corner to make it 3-3 with the home side in the ascendency.

However, a final twist ten minutes from time saw Eddy Clapham find the inside of the near post with a low drive from 20 yards to see Wigginton safely through to the next round of the competition which is sponsored by Keal Teamwear.

Sporting Knavesmire hit Hemingbrough United for six with goals from Tom Williams (2), Ben Lock, Danny Owers, Jake Duckworth and Danny Smith,

Hemingbrough converted a consolation penalty just before full-time.

A Sam Shipley goal was enough to put Huntington out of the cup and Osbaldwick through to round three. A Simon Wilson hat-trick for Rawcliffe wasn’t enough to stop his side loosing 6-3 at home to Poppleton United.

In the Saturday Junior Cup – sponsored by Construction Marine Ltd – Will Plews was first on the scoresheet for Haxby United in their clash with a determined Wilberfoss side.

Wilberfoss levelled before half-time but Haxby made sure of their second round victory with further goals from Ryan Peart and Plews during the second half.

Tom Derbyshire bagged a brace, while Steve Jarvis and Mike Clancy also got their names on the scoresheet.

York Nomads won 7-0 away at Thorpe United, with Samson Wildman and Danny Snaith scoring two apiece and one each for John Patrick, Chris Bilton and Craig Hargreaves.

The tie between Cliffe and Hounds was abandoned after 86 minutes of play, and York FA are investigating the circumstances surrounding this.
