A YORK football team may be plunged into oblivion a year away from celebrating its diamond anniversary.

LNER Builders FC have been mainstay members of the Leeper Hare York and District Football League since 1948, but now they are without a ground and are staring at an uncertain future.

After lengthy spells of playing either at Knavesmire or Hob Moor the club moved lock and stock to the British Sugar ground in Boroughbridge Road seven years ago. But with the sugar factory soon to close LNER Builders have been told they can no longer play there.

Club president Ralph Skilbeck, who has been involved with the club for close on 50 years, has made several inquiries of other grounds, but has so far drawn a blank.

He said: "We've been on the go since 1948 and I've been connected with the club since 1959, but now we've been told that last season just gone was our last at the sugar factory ground. Unless someone can help us out with a new ground then we might have to fold."

LNER Builders have teams in division three and reserve C' of the Leeper Hare League. Anyone who can come to their aid are asked to contact Skilbeck on York 792301.
