TEN points from 12 has seen Pickering Town surge up the Northern Counties East League premier division table - but boss Paul Marshall says he still needs to dip into the transfer market if the club are to continue their excellent form.

Ged Dalton's second minute goal gave the Pikes a 1-0 win over Albion Sports on Tuesday night, extended their unbeaten run to four matches and pushed them up to tenth with games in hand on everyone above.

Marshall, though, while thrilled with their displays, is concerned about the club's lack of depth and with forward Tony Hackworth and assistant manager, and centre-half, Denny Ingram both set to start suspensions after being sent off against Cleethorpes, he is in the market for new recruits ahead of their clash with Pontefract Collieries at the Recreation Ground tomorrow.

He said: "The lads are really working their socks off for us at the moment. They have played seven games in September and are pretty tired. That showed on Tuesday night when we were hanging on against a quick Albion side.

"It is a small group of players and we might come unstuck if we don't strengthen pretty quickly. We need another couple of faces in because we can't expect these lads to keep going to the well. We have got two more players that we are looking at and we are going to keep trying.

"I don't think the squad is strong enough. We are going to pick up a couple more injuries and Tony Hackworth's and Denny Ingram's suspension are going to kick in.

"Denny's starts on Saturday. We have got a hard run of fixtures with playing on Saturday and Tuesday for the next few weeks and it is going to take their toll on the players.

"But hopefully their confidence will be something to build on."

On Pontefract, who beat Liversedge 2-1 on Wednesday night, the Pikes chief added: "Aaron Moxom is their main player and scores all the goals (seven this season). One of my old captains plays for them and we have to keep the ball out of the air."

Selby Town are shorn of some key players ahead of their trip to Eccleshill United in the Northern Counties East League first division.

Chris Jackson, Brent Leister, Will Ramsay and Liam Stonehouse are among those not in action for manager Dave Ricardo, who will be able to call on the services of dual-registration player Jamie Forrester.

The Robins ended a run of three games without a win with a 4-0 victory over Glasshoughton Welfare at Flaxley Road last week and he said taking chances had been the key.

"The only difference between that and the last few games was the finishing," Ricardo explained. "We took the chances that we have created. We are missing a couple of players this week and I am looking for a new centre-half.

"I will dip into the transfer market and we need to bring someone in before Saturday."

On Eccleshill, he said: "They have had an inconsistent start and they got thumped 3-0 by Penistone on Wednesday. They will be up for the fight and a typical NCEL opponent. We will have to win the battle before we can play football."

Tadcaster Albion, top of the premier division, will bid to stay there by beating Barton Town Old Boys. It will be a tough examination for Billy Miller's men against a side who have picked up 16 points from their first nine games.

Back in division one, Knaresborough Town host Hull United. The Evo-Stik first division north sees Harrogate Railway travel to Ossett Albion.

Harrogate Town are in FA Cup second round qualifying action at Workington Town. Scarborough Athletic are not in action.
