“WE just want to keep our run going”, was the cry from Selby Town manager Ian Dring as they look to continue their good form against Knaresborough Town tomorrow, writes James Jeavons.

Recent results have seen Selby haul themselves off the bottom of the Northern Counties East League first division and up into 19th place after they recorded an impressive 4-2 win at Clipstone Welfare in midweek.

Referring to the Clipstone win, Dring stated: “The lads’ performance in the first half was unbelievable and they were superb throughout but it was a back-to-the-walls job in the last 25 minutes.”

Experienced striker Danny Gray is one of seven new players introduced by Dring since he began his tenure at the club at the end of November.

Gray, a former Tadcaster Albion player, has now scored six goals in four games but Dring stated how it’s not only the formidable partnership of Gray and his strike partner Jack Wooley that look like scoring goals.

“Every time we go forward we look extremely dangerous and we look like we are going to score from all over the pitch,” said Dring.

The Robins home game against promotion-chasing Knaresborough will be their fourth game in ten days but Dring isn’t worried about fatigue setting in.

He said: “All the lads are fit so fatigue shouldn’t be a problem. Naturally we just want to keep our excellent run of form going.”

But despite the Robins naturally wanting to extend their unbeaten run, Dring has worries whether the game will go ahead because of the state of the pitch at Flaxley Road.

“The weather is looking horrendous for the weekend and our pitch already has lying water on it, so I doubt it will be on but we’ll naturally leave it as late as we can to make a decision.”

If the game against Knaresborough does go ahead, Dring may have to tinker with his recent winning side with both Mike Jones and Danny Rodriguez picking up slight knocks in the midweek win.

“Mike’s got a recurrence of a slight back injury and Danny slightly knocked his knee during the second half but that then could give those who have not been starting regularly a chance.”
