DEFENDING champions Station are not ceding their Ian’s Cars of Barlby York Sunday Morning Football League first division crown without a fight.

With four games in hand, they are now only ten points behind leaders King William after two goals from Steve Lyon sealed a 2-1 win over Dunnington, who replied with a strike from Grant Bulmer.

In division two, pace-setters Derwent United were held 4-4 at relegation-threatened Haxby Lions.

Marcus Godsall hit a hat-trick for the visitors for whom Dave Bradshaw was also on target.

The Lions’ share fell to a hat-trick, including two penalties, from Paul Jacobs, plus a Paul Scaife goal.

Second-placed Leeman United gained two points on the leaders with a 4-0 home win over Hambleton.

Craig Fletcher opened the scoring before Danny Coulson made it 2-0 going into the break.

The hosts underlined their mastery with an unstoppable free-kick from Craig Maxwell before James Barrett netted.

Bubwith Nomads, however, lost ground on the top two after drawing 0-0 with York Medics.

Division three table-toppers Albion Vaults were 4-1 winners over derby rivals Brayton FC.

Dave Huller opened the scoring for Vaults after only five minutes with Paul Tanton extending the lead in the 32nd minute.

Albion were 3-0 up ten minutes into the second period when Huller scored a header at the far post.

Darren Rollinson also notched before Brayton’s lone reply from Michael Davison’s spot-kick.

York Five Lions remain seven points adrift of Vaults after beating York RI 6-3 thanks to a brace from Leigh Dutton, and Andy Metcalfe, Liam Keenaham, Danny Atkinson and Will Moore goals. Gary Rylance (2) and Gareth Fisher replied.

Marcia Bishopthorpe, with goals from Tom Lyons and Gareth Tooley, beat Selby Olympia 2-1 to move off the bottom, where they were replaced by Olympia for whom Ian Breheney was on target.

In division four, York Phoenix are still looking for their first points of the season after going down 8-0 to at home to Eggborough.

The visitors were 5-0 in front at the break – Jake Wild running wild to hit four goals with Jon Dobson also on the mark.

The second period saw the visitors make sure of the points with further strikes from John Nurden, Craig Innes and Darren Pool.
