ACOMB Celtic needed extra-time before overcoming a spirited York Nomads Society 4-2 to bag a place in the York FA Sunday Morning Senior Cup final.

After a blank first-half, Nomads opened the scoring, finally breaking the defiance of Acomb ’keeper Pete Guest.

Lee Powell equalised to take the tie into extra time, where Nomads went in front again.

But Acomb responded with goals from Neil Richardson, Kev Scott and Ben Jones to seal a place in the final against either Hounds or King William, who play their semi-final on Sunday.

Bubwith White Swan prevailed by the odd goal in seven in the Sunday Morning Junior Cup semi-final against York St John.

The University tally was plundered by hat-trick ace Michael Grugan, but it was not enough to fend off the Swan ranks who led 4-1 at half-time with goals from Simon Houlder (2), Tom Robinson and Robert Joy.

Grigan bagged two replies after the break, but Bubwith held out despite having a man sent off with five minutes to go. The other semi-final will be played between Tadcaster Magnets and Huntington Rovers on Sunday.
