PICKERING Town are hoping to recreate cup glories when they travel to Flixton, in Manchester, for the second round of the FA Vase.

The Pikes reached the last eight of the competition last year before succumbing 2-0 away at Nantwich. It was a cup run which galvanised the town and manager Alex Mathie will be looking for another sustained run - starting against their North West Counties division one opponents.

Pickering come into the game on the back of a penalty shootout win over Retford last week in the Northern Counties East League Cup and club chairman Tony Dunning warned the players that another bout of extra time could be on the cards if the Pikes are to be victorious.

"Another run like last year would do us really nicely. We've had our spy down there and they are not a bad side and play on a decent pitch," he said.

"Financially, it's very important for us to do well and it creates a lot of interest in the town. If we play our game, we've got every chance. We have made defensive mistakes lately - whereas last year we were really tight at the back."

Centre forward Lyle Hillier is out for Harrogate Railway - causing boss Martin Haresign a few selection problems as they take on top of the table Stockbridge Park Steels at home in UniBond League division one.

Hillier broke his hand during last week's 4-1 defeat at Woodley Sports and Haresign says the target man's loss will be keenly felt. But he said his side had produced their best against the league's elite this season.

"We need to start quickly," he said. "We know it's going to be difficult and we know the quality of their players but we tend to do better against the bigger teams so we've got high hopes."

Meanwhile, Tadcaster Albion entertain Nostell Miners Welfare in North Counties East League division one.

NCEL premier division title chasers Selby Town are without a game tomorrow.
