HEMINGBROUGH romped to a 128-run win over Bishopthorpe IIs in the final of the HPH Vale Cricket League's Scothern Construction Cup.

Bishopthorpe seconds, fielding six juniors, made Hemingbrough were work hard for their runs and the breakthrough came on 32.

But it wasn't sustained as James Dougherty pushed on to hit 34, with Matt Milburn (21), Matt Clark (28), Mike Smales (38) and Ricky Noble (21no) contributing to a total of 196-7.

Bishopthorpe's task was made even more difficult when they lost the services of talented bat Ben Smith, who needed hospital treatment having sustained a facial injury while fielding at short leg.

Their response never got to grips with Hemingbrough paceman Paul Collins who took 3-15 from his allocated ten overs while Ricky Noble chipped in with 2-17.

Only a gritty 22 not-out from BBC TV's Match of the Day commentator, Guy Mowbray, kept Bishopthorpe in the game, but he rapidly ran out of partners as Hemingbrough eased home.

The Scothern Construction Cup was presented to the winning captain Paul Collins by league secretary Shane Hargrave.

Drax II beat Ovington II by 35 runs to reach the final of the Prendergast Memorial Trophy and will meet Thorpe Willoughby on Sunday at Drax.

Thorpe booked their place with a thrilling semi-final victory over Acomb's youngsters.

Acomb got off to a solid start with John Littlewood making 57 and Paul Hughes contributing 30 in a first wicket partnership of 75.

Successive batsman failed to make an impression though as Dave Watson kept a tight rein with 4-22 to limit Acomb to 142.

Despite losing early wickets to an impressive ten-over burst from Michael Walsh, which yielded 4-31,Thorpe's middle order regained control, Ross Powell hitting 28 and Martin Cooke 62 to ease past the target with two overs to spare.
