A visit to bottom club Stillingfleet should have been a walk in the park for HPH York Vale League division two leaders Hemingbrough.

But an unhelpful pitch and gritty opponents who had thrown away the script conspired to produce a major shock as Hemingbrough crashed to their first defeat of the season.

Batting first, Stillingfleet's W Livsey (31), Chris Walker (29) and Rob Murray (42) led the way to 176-9 on a pitch that offered assistance to the bowlers, R Noble taking 4-42.

Only Ron Allderidge (57) could make headway against Stillingfleet's bowlers, Chris Walker (4-74) and R Hall (3-46) doing the damage as Hemingbrough struggled to 147.

Ovington would have been pleased with their 204-7 against a powerful York side, Dave Cole (57) and Josh Bonner (56) being the mainstay of the innings before both fell to Tom Copland, who took 4-31.

James Hepworth led the York onslaught with 85 not out, vital support coming from Tom Boyle (35) and Jon Sharpe (30no) as the target was reached for the loss of four wickets.

Martin Reynolds (109) inspired Ben Johnson to a 23-run victory at Thixendale, whose Les Milburn top-scored with 67.

Against Copmanthorpe, Phil Smith put in his customary 20-over unchanged stint for Kelfield, which yielded 5-82, M Rhodes weighing-in with 4-40 as the home side registered 179.

Paul Waterhouse top-scored with 41, useful support coming from Kevin Ryder (30) and Steve Purdy (29).

Despite a quickfire 33 from Andy Charlton and some middle order defiance, Darren Hughes (4-44) ensured that Kelfield fell 24 runs short.

Clifton Alliance had Matt Mellor (5-57) to thank for restricting Stockton and Hopgrove to 166, Mark Dobson scoring 33.

At 137-2, Clifton Alliance seemed to have the game in the bag, but then six wickets fell for ten runs, Rich Grimes taking 6-31 to squeeze Stockton home by six runs.
