University Staff’s miserable HPH York Vale Cricket League season continued with a 29-run defeat at the hands of leaders Hemingbrough.

M Sulleman 3-33 soon had the visitors in trouble, but Matthew Milburn (54) and former captain John Waterhouse (50) put on 92 for the fourth wicket before Matty Clark smashed a quickfire 95 in 40 balls, including five sixes and ten fours.

Chasing 238, the Staff put up a creditable performance with Farrukh (76) leading the way, but Clark had more impact taking 3-41 and adding three catches to ensure a 29-run victory.

Heworth’s losing run continued with a five-wicket loss to Barmby Moor. Tom Allen (52) top-scored with Sam Appleton taking 4-17 for Moor.

Barmby won by five wickets, Mike Brent (60) leading the way.

North Cave won an entertaining match against Clifton Alliance.

Allan Barton (54no) and William Roe (42) laid the foundation of the 196-6, but Cave began well with James Ferguson (63) leading the way to a four-wicket win.

Copmanthorpe avenged last week’s defeat by Burn by an emphatic five wickets.

Jonathan Adamson made a watchful 72 backed by Prescott (46), but 223-9 was not enough as Cop’s Mike Walker hit 84.

Ian Holmes (83) top-scored for Bishopthorpe in their 173-7, but they were made to pay for dropping Chris Walker (48) before he scored. Callum Dent (50 not out) saw the visitors home.

Division two leaders Stockton & Hopgrove lost by ten runs to Selby, Jeffrey Romans (3-19) and Aidan Pearce (3-16) doing the damage.

Kelfield had a comfortable victory over North Duffield, who reached 158-6. Andrew Falkingham made 77, but Kelfield eased to the win with Matthew Walker hitting 54.

Pick of the division three performances went to Acomb, where 15-year-old Dan Littlewood (56 not out) hit a maiden half-century and partnered his dad, John, (51) in a century stand as Acomb ran out nine-wicket winners.

Thorpe Willoughby suffered defeat at the hands of Stillingfleet. Garry Turner hit 60, but Rob Bielby (3-15) and Chris Woodfine (3-24) ensured a low score was to be Fleet’s target.

In division four, Darren Hosford had a field day, hitting 50 and taking 4-23, including a hat-trick, in Huntington’s 92-run win over Heworth.

Leaders Ovington II collapsed losing four wickets on 122, but recovered to 177-9 with Chris Tune (69no) holding the innings together.

York RI were soon in trouble at 13-2 and were all out for 125, Craig Theaker (3-29) and Sam Prangnell (3-29) were the principal wicket-takers.

Burn II continued to blaze a trail at the top of division five.

Martin Trevaskiss (52) and Jamie Bingle (73) set up a total of 228-9, but Selby fell 118 short. Adam Sparkes hit 59.

A young York side beat Thorpe Willoughby II by four wickets. Andy Proctor took 3-41 and Ryan Waite 3-17 before Waite hit 45 to ensure a win.
