A SPORTING gesture saw Barmby Moor concede their York Vale League Scothern Construction Cup tie at Kelfield due to a serious leg injury for home player Steve Lund.

Moor required 35 runs off 11 balls when care assistant Lund, also known as Sid', broke his leg and dislocated an ankle when his studs stuck in the turf as he tried to save a boundary.

An ambulance was called and Kelfield batsman Charlie Cameron, who used to play with opening batsman Lund for Ellerton, decided to call off the run chase and allow Kelfield to progress to the next round.

"It's not a nice thing to happen and our main concern was to get Sid to hospital," Cameron said.

Kelfield captain Neil Atkinson applauded the gesture, adding: "We've got a small pitch so it was not impossible for Barmby to get their runs and we had everybody on the boundary."

The home side had earlier made 177-4 with Atkinson contributing 58 and M Walker 62.
