JAMIE KERRISON held his nerve to take Stockton & Hopgrove to a thrilling HPH York Vale Cricket League win at Burn.

With the last pair at the wicket he smashed a six off Danny Montgomery to overhaul Burn’s 225-8 in spectacular fashion.

The division one fixture produced 451 runs in contrast to the other games that survived overnight downpours as bowlers dominated on damp pitches.

That was not the case at Burn, where solid batting, led by Leigh Adamson (44), saw the home side post a healthy total.

A rapid 57 from opener Richard Kerrison gave Stockton a great start and although Montgomery (4-65) ripped out the middle order, Jamie Kerrison’s big hit took him to 59 not out and brought 30 points for his side.

It was also tight at Kelfield, who pipped North Duffield by one run.

Kelfield moved from 72-3 after 20 overs to 192-9 at tea thanks to a 22-ball 47 by Ben Atkinson.

Matthew Fortnam (54) and Trevor Britain (45) put on 84 for Duffield and at 170-5 with six overs remaining the visitors looked in charge.

That changed dramatically as Phil Smith took three wickets in four deliveries to set up a nerve-jangling finish which saw Craig Patrick run out off the final ball going for a run which would have forced a tie.

Bishopthorpe maintained their 100 per cent record by beating Ben Johnson by six wickets.

The printers paid the price for choosing to bat first as they were hustled out for just 70, Andrew Seager taking 3-11 from seven overs of off-spin.

Dom Kitching (5-26) wiped out the Fulfordgate tail to leave Ovington needing 133 to win which they easily achieved thanks to a stand of 126 between Tom Ashby (70no) and Pete Kelly (58).

Champions North Cave proved too strong for promoted Melbourne, totalling 207-9 with James Windeatt, batting at seven, scoring eight sixes in his tally of 89.

Although all games in the top flight were played, only one went ahead in division two, Wheldrake winning comfortably after bowling out Westow for 68 which featured 3-14 by Mark Cass.

No side in division three managed triple figures as the winners in the three games to beat the weather all won by ten wickets.

Twelve-year-old Acomb spinner Thomas Brown took his second four-wicket haul of the new season at Pocklington, where Steve Lennox ended the match in 8.2 overs with a boundary which brought up his half-century.

Malton & Old Malton achieved the same result after bowling out Bishophorpe II for 61 after the Bishops were 25 without loss.

Thorpe Willoughby needed only 13.2 overs to overhaul Selby’s meagre 52.

In division four, Thorpe’s second string made it a club double over Selby II who were 9-6 at one stage before being bowled out for 72.

The experienced John Kitson had figures of 9-5-7-6 as Yapham II’s youngsters were routed for 27 by Thorp Arch & Boston Spa.

Stamford Bridge pair Martin Veysey (60) and Tom Lawson (55) shared a stand of 96 as Tadcaster Magnet were well beaten.

PRESS PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK: THORP Arch & Boston Spa opening bowler John Kitson showed no mercy to Yapham II’s youngsters in division four with eye-catching figures of 9-5-7-6.
