YORK will head to leaders Barnsley on Saturday knowing they are in with a real shout of the ECB Oxbridge Yorkshire County Premier Cricket League title.

Both teams won on Bank Holiday Monday, but league chiefs have deducted four points from Barnsley's total after an inquiry into their controversial victory at Scarborough earlier in the season.

The result of that clash at North Marine Road in June hinged on a scoring error over a boundary.

However, Barnsley are to appeal over their points deduction which has trimmed their advantage at the top of the table to three points from Doncaster (116) with York a further point behind on 115.

Doncaster have played a game more so York are regarded the biggest threat to Barnsley's first-ever championship.

After York and Barnsley go head-to-head at Shaw Lane on Saturday, both teams will be left with two more games to play.

York maintained their challenge with a crushing 230-run win over bottom club Appleby Frodingham at Clifton Park on Monday.

The highlight of York's massive 311-4 total was a stunning 121 from Duncan Snell. His 50 came off 33 balls and it took him just 27 more deliveries to reach his century. His thrilling innings included 15 fours and six sixes.

Opener Stephen Piercy did his usual reliable job with a solid 66 to pave the way for Snell and Alex Collins (34 not out) to add 88 in the last eight overs of York's innings.

Two breaks for rain meant that Marcus Wood declared early and the result was never in much doubt after the Lincolnshire side's opener, Matt Morland, was caught behind off Colin Palmer without a run on the board.

But the real damage was done by Nick Kay, whose medium-pacers ripped through the visitors' line-up.

His perfect line and length was too hot to handle and brought him four lbw decisions in a haul of 6-20 off 10.1 overs as Appleby Frodingham were bowled out for just 81.

Meanwhile, Barnsley beat Scarborough by seven wickets to set up Saturday's crunch home encounter with York.
