YORK Cricket Club progressed to the final of the Myers Burnell Cup when they beat Acomb by 55 runs - and immediately gave themselves a headache.

The final is on Sunday, August 6, but the Oxbridge Yorkshire ECB County Premier Cricket League may require York to play at Castleford on that date York, who are still involved in the Cockspur Cup, are a match adrift in the league and are running out of time to fit in their extra fixture.

Today they were entertaining Doncaster, who are three points ahead of fourth-placed York with only eight points covering the top five clubs. York will be boosted by their recent Cockspur Cup win over the South Yorkshire team but equally mindful that they suffered an abject defeat when they visited Town Fields in early May.

The club are hosting a six-aside competition at Clifton Park on Sunday when four teams will be battling it out for the Chris Houseman Trophy.

Huby CC, Leeds Doctors and two teams from York RUFC will be in action from 11am onwards.

The ten-overs-a-side contest will see each player bowl two overs with batsmen retiring when they reach 25.

"It should be a fun day out, " said York wicketkeeper Nigel Durham, who has organised the event.

There will be several other attractions including a bouncy castle, cricket ball throwing competitions, raffle to win Yorkshire memorabilia and the chance to win your own height in beer for the most catches.

Any money raised will be split between the York club's junior section and charity.

Meanwhile, York continue to make arrangements for coach transport (£10 return) for their quarter final visit to Gosforth a week tomorrow. Final numbers will need to be fixed this weekend so please contact Chris Houseman as son as possible on 01904 610258.
