THE three-way race for the Oxbridge Yorkshire ECB County Premier League title is going down to the wire.

Reigning champions York Cricket Club secured back-to-back victories over Scarborough and Castleford at the weekend, while leaders Yorkshire Academy also claimed 16 points from their weekend double-header.

Third-placed Scarborough bounced back from their Clifton Park defeat to beat Cleethorpes on Sunday to set up a tense six-match run-in.

Having racked up a big score on Saturday, York again batted first on winning the toss against Castleford on Sunday.

The visitors’ pace duo Chris Young and Will Hodson bowled with accuracy, forcing York openers Duncan Snell and Dan Wilson to be watchful on a slowish wicket.

The odd ball had a tendency to keep low and, with Wilson unusually subdued, it was left to Snell to keep the scoreboard moving.

Snell, a centurion on Saturday, did that with a series of well-timed boundaries and his first ten scoring shots were all fours.

By the time Snell was out in the 22nd over, he had made 69 runs out of the 96 on the board. His innings included 14 fours and a six.

Without addition to the score, Wilson followed him to the pavilion having made 25 off 65 balls.

Simon Mason and Alex Collins added 78 in 20 overs before Mason was run out for 50 attempting a tight second run.

Collins made 44 as he marshalled the rest of the innings, which closed on 239-9.

The Castleford openers took the score to 31 in the first nine overs, but then Tom Bartram struck, dismissing opener Stephen Sacks and Luke Patel.

Neil Laidlaw sent back Shaun Le Roux to leave the visitors on 32-3.

Andrew Chadwick and Gary O’Neill added 34 for the sixth wicket but the tail soon succumbed and Cas were all out for 114.

Tom Bartram took 5-51 in 13 overs, giving him ten wickets over the weekend.
