YORK Cricket Club first team all rounder Nick Kay excelled to win the St Leonard's Hospice annual golf tournament at Fulford.
Kay, who plays off 18 and is not currently a member of a golf club, scored 45 stableford points, the equivalent of nine under par, as he carried off the Peter Langron Trophy for the best overall score.
"I have never played anywhere near as good as that in my life.
"I had a bad start and was six over par after four holes, but then I only dropped three shots. It was the best round I have ever played by miles", said Kay who is on the waiting list at Alwoodley Golf Club, Leeds.
Best gross round of the day came from Neil Smith, a scratch York player, who had six birdies in totalling 42 points.
Ann Wood, a Fulford member, won the ladies prize with 35 points on a day which saw £10,600 raised for the hospice.
