Yorkshire’s season is in danger of unravelling.

The Tykes are in the relegation zone in the LV= County Championship and are struggling in the Clydesdale Bank 40.

Now, because of a fourth defeat in the Friends Life t20, they are in danger of failing in the shortest form of the game as well.

This is after they were well beaten by 41 runs against Worcestershire at New Road.

The result leaves them second bottom in the North Division, three points off the final qualification place with seven games remaining.

Although it means their hopes of a quarter-final place are far from over, they will certainly need to perform better than they did against the Royals.

After Yorkshire lost the toss and were asked to field on a hot sunny day, Worcestershire were soon into their stride.

Openers Moeen Ali and Vikram Solanki hit 22 runs off the first nine balls, before Solanki was caught at mid-off by Adil Rashid for eight to give England’s Ajmal Shahzad the first of his three wickets.

However, that only brought Alexei Kervezee to the crease and the Dutch World Cup star in good touch from the off.

Ali came and went for 40, before the 21-year-old Kervezee began to plunder the Yorkshire attack to all parts of the ground.

He was eventually out for a Twenty20 best score of 56 but, with the Royals already on 147-4 in the 17th over, it was clear the Tykes were going to be chasing a tough target.

James Cameron then completed their misery with a quick-fire 55 to help his side close on 183-7 after their 20 overs.

It meant the Tykes had been set 184 to win, and things started to go wrong for them almost immediately.

York’s Jonny Bairstow was out after only four balls of the reply for one, with the rest of the Tykes’ top order then blown apart inside the opening seven overs.

By this stage they had slumped to 49-5, with only captain Andrew Gale and Adam Lyth reaching double figures, before Gary Ballance offered some brief resistance in front of a healthy New Road crowd of more than 3,000.

He made 26 off 22 balls, but fell to Jack Shantry to leave Yorkshire on 86-6.

This soon became 112-7, when Joe Root departed for an attractive 26, leaving the Tykes’ lower order with the near impossible task of saving the match.

They did their best as Tim Bresnan struck an entertaining 25 but, with time running out and the asking rate up to 17 runs an over by the start of the 18th over, the game was up.

Two wickets in two balls then finished the contest, with Gareth Andrew removing Rich Pyrah (10) and Azeem Rafiq (0) to bowl Yorkshire out for only 142.
