Yorkshire County Cricket Club chief executive Stewart Regan has admitted he agrees with Mike Gatting’s opinion that Martyn Moxon would be a good coaching option for England.

But that does not mean Regan is contemplating a parting of the ways with his highly-rated director of cricket.

Former England captain Gatting, who is currently the ECB’s managing director of cricket partnerships, recently endorsed Moxon’s credentials as a replacement for the sacked Peter Moores.

“John Wright, from New Zealand, who’s working in the (ECB) academy, should come into consideration,” said Gatting.

“Looking closer to home, so should someone like Martyn Moxon, who is very much respected in the game. He’s done a very good job at Durham and Yorkshire.”

Regan responded: “I think we would cross that bridge when it arises.

“It was like when I was at the Football League. When a football vacancy came available you had about ten or 15 names linked with that vacancy. If some of those people are in jobs, it just creates uncertainty, it unsettles the club, the players.

“At the moment we have got a very stable staff, a very stable squad. The last thing I want to be doing is speculating on what is just Mike Gatting’s opinion.

“We know Martyn is a great coach. That is why we appointed him as Yorkshire coach. He is focused on preparing the team for the new season. That is as far as it goes.”
