YORKSHIRE quick Jared Warner and bustling seamer Josh Shaw have both been loaned to Specsavers County Championship Division Two sides Sussex and Gloucestershire respectively for the next month.

Sussex-bound Warner took seven wickets in this week’s 258-run win against Worcestershire in the Second XI’s three-day Championship win at Kidderminster. In the first innings, the 22-year-old Academy product recorded impressive figures of 13-3-22-5 and is looking to make the most of his first opportunity to go out on loan.

He made his first-team debut in this year’s Royal London One-Day Cup, bowling five overs with the new ball in Yorkshire’s abandoned match against Durham at Emerald Headingley. He has taken 68 wickets in 66 appearances for Yorkshire’s second team.

Wakefield-born Warner, yet to make his first-class debut for the White Rose county, is set to train with the Sussex squad on Sunday morning ahead of their next County Championship Division Two fixture in Northampton on Monday, May 20.

“This will be the first time I’ve been on loan and I’m really looking forward to it,” he told yorkshireccc.com. “It will be great to get some first-team team experience, I feel like I’ve been bowling really well and I’m keen to carry that on and do well. It was nice to get a five-for earlier this week in a very good team performance. I feel as though I’ve been bowling well all year and that it’s all coming together.

“I can’t wait to be honest, it’s a step up, I found that when I played the last game of the Royal London One-Day Cup. It will only make me a better bowler, coming up against better players and I feel as though I need to keep on performing during this break from Second-XI cricket, and there is a fair chunk of red-ball cricket to get stuck into.

“I want to do well and prove a point to Yorkshire and, long-term, get some consistency in to my game. Short-term, I want to contribute to Sussex who have showed faith in signing me and I want to help them to some wins.

“I believe I can play at this level and I aim to do myself justice.”

Shaw returns for a fourth spell with Bristol-based club, Gloucestershire. The 23-year-old, who played against Derbyshire in red-ball action at the start of last month, is likely to link up with the travelling Gloucestershire squad on Sunday ahead of Monday’s fixture at Durham.

“Gloucestershire are a club I know quite well and this is the fourth time I’ve been down there now,” said Shaw, who took two wickets in last month’s loan spell before being ruled out with a quad injury, from which he has now recovered. “The last three times, I’ve really enjoyed myself and they’re a good set of lads.

“It will be a great opportunity to go back there and to try and execute my skills and plans and try and push for a place in the Yorkshire First XI.

“As a club, we’ve got a few fast bowlers doing really well at the moment and therefore it’s hard to get a start when the other lads are bowling really well in the Championship games. When the other lads are doing really well, you need to go away and perform for the Second XI or on loan. It’s about putting a marker down and proving you can do it if you get chance.

“I need to put quality performances in and hopefully I get a shot at playing first-team cricket for Yorkshire. If a spot does come up, I think I could make a mark, nail down a spot for the future and play consistently.”
