YORKSHIRE claimed only one wicket during an attritional opening morning of their Specsavers County Championship match against Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl.
Ben Coad had Michael Carberry caught behind on the drive in the sixth over after Gary Ballance had elected to bowl when opting for no toss.
But despite some tight Yorkshire bowling, Hampshire recovered from 9-1 to reach lunch at 75-1 from 30 overs.
What help there had been for Yorkshire's bowlers came through swing, although early signs suggest this will be a match for the batsmen.
That should suit Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root, who are back in county action in place of Andrew Hodd and Jack Leaning.
Hampshire captain James Vince began the afternoon session on 39 not out, with opener Jimmy Adams still there on 29.
