Yorkshire fast bowler Tim Bresnan has been left out of England's initial 30-man squad for the World Cup because of doubts over whether he will be fully fit in a month's time when the final squad will be reduced to 15.

Now both Bresnan and Yorkshire colleague Adil Rashid are being closely monitored by the England and Wales Cricket Board to see if they are completely recovered from their back problems in time to make it for the England A' four-week tour of Bangladesh which begins on February 14.

Bresnan (pictured left) is spending the next three weeks doing rehabilitation work at the National Cricket Centre at Loughborough before flying to India for a fortnight at the Dennis Lillee cricket school at Chennai, while Rashid is being assessed at Loughborough for the five weeks leading up to the tour.

Naming England's World Cup 30 over the week-end, England's chairman of selectors David Graveney said that Bresnan, Darren Gough and Ian Blackwell had not been included because they had been unable to prove their fitness would be at a suitable level by February 15 when the final squad will be announced.

"We are eager to ensure everyone is given every opportunity to prove their fitness but we are not prepared to select players that we anticipate will not reach a satisfactory level of fitness for what will be a gruelling tournament," said Graveney.

Yorkshire bowling coach Steve Oldham was at Loughborough last week when the decisions to further assess Bresnan and Rashid were taken.

Bresnan suffered a stress fracture of the back soon after playing for England in the one-day series of internationals against Sri Lanka last summer and was out for a couple of months before returning for Yorkshire's final Championship game of the season against Durham.

He was able to play for England in the ICC six-a-side tournament in Hong Kong in the autumn but complained off further back problems and underwent another rest period of several weeks before starting to build up his fitness again.

Rashid was hit by a stress-related back injury immediately after the end of the season and he is now ready to start bowling again at Loughborough following a lot of fitness work.
