POSITIVE results on and off the field were celebrated at Woodhouse Grange Cricket Club’s annual general meeting.

The Sutton-on-Derwent-based club’s first team finished joint second in the premier division of the Hunters York & District Senior League.

That represented a fifth consecutive finish in either first or second place, while the team also won the League Cup and the York Senior Charity Cup.

The third team enjoyed their second successive promotion in the HPH York Vale League, while the Academy team picked up three trophies for the second year running.

Grange also retained their title in the Foss Evening League side.

Secretary John Farmer said: “Another good year on the field was confirmed. Most promising in members’ minds was the large number of good young cricketers gracing all the club’s sides, hopefully leading to lots of success.”

Meanwhile, off the field, the club have been awarded grants to help towards the cost of a new mower and installing a water supply to both squares.

Wendy Cattle and first-team player Chris Bilton were added to the committee, while Peter Nolton was granted life membership in recognition of many years service to the club in various capacities.

Grange will stage their first golf day at The Oaks Golf Club on Wednesday, May 18, while the annual club dinner will be held on Friday, March 11, at Fulford GC.

Winter nets for seniors and juniors will be held at Archbishop Holgate’s School, in York, from late January until mid-April.
