YORK Senior Cricket League champions Woodhouse Grange have booked their place in round two of the Black Sheep Yorkshire Champions Trophy.

The Sutton-on-Derwent side beat Huddersfield Central League champions Cawthorne by 86 runs in round one and will be at home to either Warley or Birstall at the next stage.

Batting first, Woodhouse were in trouble at 113-8 with only Joel Hughes making an impact with 51.

The damage was done by Cawthorne bowlers Richard Greeves (3-24) and Adrian Wilford (3-43).

Then came a remarkable turnaround with a stand of 74 for the ninth-wicket between Steve Burdett (32) and number ten David Suddaby, who made 43 with four fours and two sixes.

This hauled Woodhouse to a respectable total of 194 all out.

Cawthorne’s reply reached 68-2 before Tom Quinn and Nick Hadfield used the variable bounce to their advantage and reduced the home side to 108 all out.

Quinn took 4-27 in ten overs and Hadfield claimed 2-19 in his ten overs. David Suddaby polished off the tail with 2-6. Stand-in wicketkeeper Andrew Anderson took three catches.

The date of the second round tie has yet to be finalised.
