HOVINGHAM openers Charlie Foster and Stuart Prest put on 135 and still ended up on the losing side in division three of the Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League.

Foster made 53 and Stuart Prest hit 77 to set their side on the way to 198-9 at home to Bolton Percy, but Hovingham lost by four wickets.

Peter Houseman claimed 4-44 in nine overs for Bolton Percy, whose reply boasted runs for Jamie Rigby (38), Joe White (50) and Ali Rigby (59). George Mosey took 3-22 for Hovingham.

Bubwith gained a 45-run win at Pickering despite being dismissed for 146.

Keith Aconley did serious damage with 5-45, while James Greenlay (3-33) lent good support. Only Neil Readman and G Wilson, who each made 29, showed any batting prowess.

However, their efforts proved to be crucial as no Pickering batsman reached 25. J Lane (3-29), Richard Hunter (3-11) and P Scott (4-22) ousted the hosts for only 101.

The biggest win of the day was clocked up by Selby, who trounced ten-man Easingwold by 224 runs.

Lee Wild returned to the Senior League fold after a spell with North Duffield and made an immediate impact, scoring 88.

However, he was outshone by Selby stalwart Ian Lake who made an unbeaten 117 after sharing a third-wicket stand of 146 with his new team-mate.

Selby reached 277-4 and that proved to be far too much for Easingwold, who slumped to the day’s lowest total of 53.

Jo Romaniw claimed 3-16 and Steve Precious included five maidens in a ten-over spell of 5-6.

Rowntree skipper Richard Tuite also had a five-wicket haul, but his overs cost 83 runs in a losing cause at Thorp Arch & Boston Spa.

The hosts made 251-7 thanks to Andy Hawkswell (87), Darren Shaw (46) and Ben Bartlett (62 off 29 balls).

Barry Steel (35) and Graham Pearce (27) some hope for the visitors, but S Joshi’s 3-21 helped dismiss them for 178.

Two batsmen registered three-figure scores at York III, where Harrogate II got the better of a draw.

Gate’s George Owram cracked an unbeaten 114, while Peter Ingham made 92 in a second-wicket partnership of 132 which helped the St Georgians to reach 224-2.

In reply, Kev Mendham made a fighting 102 and under-15s ace Andrew Simpson made an unbeaten 29 to deny the visitors a win as York gained a draw at 184-9.

Sheriff Hutton thrashed Thorp Arch & Boston Spa II by ten wickets in division 4B.

Andy Griffith made 53 in Arch’s 146-9, but Richard Ainley followed his 4-15 with an unbeaten 75 as he teamed up with Ed Taylor (70no) to knock off the runs.

Teenager Liam Carver grabbed 4-14 in 7.1 overs as he and Darren Atkinson (3-3) shot Dunnington down for only 92.

John Flintoff (36no) and Matt Wass (25no) then took Sessay to a nine-wicket win.

Hugh Sheddon hit 53 to help Huby win by four wickets at Osbaldwick.

Heworth II notched the highest total on the opening day when Joel Johnson (84) and Paul Flint (82) helped them to 290-6 at Castleford.

The hosts gained maximum batting points in a draw by reaching 206-6.

Skipper Jerry Clough top-scored with 49 for Sheriff Hutton Bridge II, whose 203-7 was beyond hosts Stamford Bridge as they fell for 115.

Andrew Healey took 3-40 for Stamford and fellow 15-year-old Mark Fisher claimed 4-14 in a winning cause for Sheriff Hutton Bridge.

Teenager Chris Bilton made 100 and his father, Russ, hit 43 as Woodhouse made 228-3 against Stillington II. Karl Simpson made 55 in a reply of 159-7.
