Dunnington edged past Easingwold by just two runs to win the Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League Premier Cup at Acomb.

It was the first time Dunnington lifted the cup since 2004 having failed in the final in 2006 and 2010.

Enthused captain Adam Iyer: “It’s really good for the club, we have worked really hard this year and we feel we are the best team in the league and we deserve it.

“It shows in the way we played. It took character to get over the line as we fell short in 2010. We made sure we didn’t do that again.”

Iyer also added: “It was a really good game of cricket, good for the neutral, but it was hard for us playing right up until the end.”

Dunnington won the toss and elected to bat first, compiling 215-9.

West Indian Collis King scored 68, Gareth Miles batted well and Harwood Williams picked up a crucial 42 runs at the back end of the innings.

For Easingwold, Paul Redshaw took 3-42 and Paul Skilbeck 2-20.

Easingwold scored well with Dan Cork bagging 62 and Skilbeck 52, but it was the economical bowling of Williams with the new ball for eight overs that frustrated the chasing side.

Josh Barrett was clinical with ball in hand for Dunnington with 3-25.
