WEST Indian batting legend Collis King was denied his 50th Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League century in Dunnington’s premier division draw with Sheriff Hutton Bridge.

King was caught for 94 on the deep cover boundary by Simon Naylor off the penultimate ball in an attempt to hit the six runs he wanted to notch that milestone three-figure score.

In a 45-over game, King dominated the Sheriff Hutton Bridge attack and was well supported by Kevin Bradley, who made 65 in a century opening stand.

Harwood Williams also made 29 out of a total of 257-4.

Sheriff Hutton Bridge made a serious attempt at reaching their target as Mark Fisher (64) and Rob Pinder (57) got to their half-centuries from successive balls.

Jordan Grose then hit a career-best 45, but returns of 3-48 by skipper Adam Iyer and 3-51 by Jack Bolam restricted the Bridge to 225-8.

York II defeated neighbours Clifton Alliance by eight wickets and the beaten visitors are now adrift at the foot.

Superb bowling by Tom Forsdike, with 6-37, and Greg Howe, who took 3-38, shot out the Alliance for 155. Adam Slater top-scored with 43.

York’s reply began with a 50-run first-wicket stand before a partnership of 89 between Simon Lambert, who was undefeated with 87, and Rob Flack, who made 32, saw York home with seven overs and eight wickets to spare.

The game at Stamford Bridge was reduced to 45 overs due to a rain interruption and produced a low-scoring affair in which the hosts beat Easingwold by 20 runs.

Danny Harper made 41 in Stamford’s total of 128, while Paul Redshaw claimed 5-29 and Steve Piercy 4-23.

Easingwold’s batsmen then found themselves struggling as spinner Dave Chaplin created problems in claiming 4-34. With Kev Murphy supporting with 4-34, Easingwold were rolled over for only 108.

Having been knocked out of both the Premier League Cup and the Yorkshire Tea National Village Cup by Studley Royal, Woodhouse Grange gained revenge when they beat their nearest challengers by seven wickets.

Gary Blackburn posted 78 and Dan Craven added 37, but spinner Josh Jackson took 4-47 to help topple the Royals for 158. The Bilton brothers saw Grange home, with Chris hitting 69 and Andrew making 43.

Acomb moved into mid-table with an advantage draw at Selby.

Selby were pleased to emerge with a draw after their final pairing of Ed Oliver (25no) and Andrew Wilson saw out the final 12 overs for an unbroken stand of 35 for the final wicket.

Earlier Andy Tute had hit 65 and Joe Dale 40 to thwart Josh Cruise’s 5-54 and post an Acomb total of 207-9.

Tom Collins made 28 at the top of the Selby order in a total of 149-9.

Beverley defeated Sewerby by 25 runs, taking the final wicket off the last ball.
