MALTON & Old Malton pulled off a superb nine-wicket victory at Hornsea to knock the division two leaders off their perch in the Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League.

Only Paul Johnson, with 25, and Richard Medforth, who got 24, made worthwhile contributions as the home side were dismissed for 109, with Wayne Dawson taking 4-30.

Dawson then followed with 38 before becoming a lone success for the Hornsea attack. After his exit, Martin Woodliffe (32no) and Steve Linsley (25no) clinched victory.

Londesborough Park took over at the top after racking up a six-wicket win over Welton & Brough.

Paul Youngman took 6-11 in only 4.3 overs as Welton were all out for 105 and Greg Drewery made 38 and Charles Rook 37 as Park knocked off the runs.

Clifton Alliance II had the better of a draw with neighbours York III in a close-fought encounter.

John Myers hit 46, Mark Askham 49 and Mick Knowles 36 in Clifton’s 165-6.

Andy Kay then made 56 in reply, while Ryan Waite (26) and Alex Szepitowski (30) helped York to 159-8 as Ryan Turner took 3-38 and Francis Hawthorne 5-29.

Tadcaster Magnet had the better of a draw at Hull after posting a total of 200-8.

Magnet’s innings was based around a fine 86 from opener Rory Coe, who was well supported by Paul Downey, with 40 not out.

Hull finished 26 runs short at 174-8 as Downey (3-31) and Coe (2-27) continued to impress.

Thirsk moved out of the bottom two when they squeezed home by one wicket at Thorp Arch, who suffered their seventh loss and are now 63 points adrift at the foot of the division.

Arch’s D Shaw made 35 out of his side’s 124 all out, while Ben Elders took 4-26 and Jake Petty 3-20 for Thirsk.

Nik Kasana (3-57) and J Powell (3-31) then helped claim nine Thirsk wickets before the visitors won at 127-9.

Bowlers also prevailed at Woodhouse Grange, where Bolton Percy were all out for 92 as Rich Hollingsworth took 4-29 and Matt Shepherd 3-13. Grange then lost six wickets before reaching their target, with Chris Suddaby’s unbeaten 21 crucial.

In division one, Hull Zingari’s Jack Storey became only the fourth batsman to hit three centuries in consecutive games when he added 115 against Heworth to previous scores of 104 against Harrogate and 115 against Driffield.

Despite his side only being able to draw in the top of the table clash they did replace their opponents in top spot.

Facing a target of 285-4, Heworth were up against it but managed to hold out for a draw at 148-9, with Gary Hall making 27.

The ground conditions at Folkton & Flixton proved to be too wet for their game against Pickering to start, so each side received nine points.

Harrogate’s batsmen fared miserably at Sessay, where they were shot out for only 50 as Liam Carver captured 5-10 and Tim Hall 3-14. Sessay then strolled to an eight-wicket victory.

Ashley Nottingham made 63 when Goole batted first against visiting Beverley and reached 196-9.

Beverley settled for a draw at 145-6, with Phil Du Boulay making 38.
