HELPERBY lead division one by two points after title rivals Sheriff Hutton Bridge suffered their first reverse of the Pilmoor Evening Cricket League season.

Bridge, who now share second place with Thirsk, batted first against visiting Sessay and 104-8 thanks to Jordan Grose's 37 and Mark Fisher's 23. Craig Easton took 4-24 for Sessay.

Sessay's reply began disastrously as Mark Fisher bowled Nick Thorne with his second ball then trapped Matthew Wass lbw next ball.

Grose bowled Paul Flintoff with the first ball of the second over to leave Sessay on 0-3, but Joe Watson (47no) and Stuart Peirse (37) put together a 61-run partnership.

Tom Sowerby added 21 not out as Sessay won with an over to spare, Mark Fisher finishing with 2-19 and Simon Naylor 2-18.

Helperby had a three-wicket win at Clifton Alliance.

Josh Harrison (39no) and Mark Taylor (21) carried a youthful Alliance side to 92-5. Dan Spink (31) and Matthew Cavanagh (21) led the Helperby reply and, despite Will Moll taking 3-21 and Allan Barton 2-16, they won with four overs to spare.

Thirsk won a close contest at Sheriff Hutton, posting 117-7 with Stuart Christon (28) and James Wilkinson (27) leading the way. For the hosts, David Hull took 3-27 and Eddie Hull 3-25.

Andy Frank and David Hull each made 20 and Chris Gartland 22 not out, but they failed to score the nine they needed from the final over and closed on 114-8, with Ross McAndrew taking 2-15.

Newburgh got their first points of the season when they won by three wickets at Alne.

Eddie Myers (27), Lewis Cox (29), Steve Raper (31no) and Toby Stirke (20) helped the hosts reach 132-9, Dave Taylor returning 3-15.

Newburgh's reply was led by Charles Ramsay, who made 43, and the Banks brothers, James (36) and Tom (23). Eddie Myers claimed 4-21.

Rowntrees & Huntington lead the second division following a solid display against New Earswick.

Unbeaten half-centuries from Nick Johnson and Tom Shaw (both 51 ret) and 24 from Jack Hugill provided the bulk of their 138-2.

Then Hugill's 2-18 and Dan Waterworth's 3-22 held the Earswick reply in check at 80-6, despite 33 from Adam Hewitson.

Acomb remain in second place following a big win at Raskelf.

Aidey Burton (54 ret) and Joe Dale (51 ret) led the way in their 161-5, Gavin Lowe taking 2-3 for the hosts.

The home reply struggled to 71 all out with Stephen Lennox (3-6) leading Acomb's victory charge.

Huby beat visitors Civil Service by 5 runs.

Andrew Luff made almost half of his side's runs, hitting 48 as Service posted 97-7.

Arran Kirkbride (23) and Sean Dixon (24) took Huby towards their target, but they were thwarted by the efforts of Richard Simpson (3-29) and Jonathan Latham (2-15) and closed on 92-8.

Dringhouses were 27-run winners at home to Crayke.

Danny Snaith held the home innings together with an unbeaten 42 and George Wilson supported with 23 in their 111-8.

Youngster Joe Wright took 3-4 for Crayke and Mark Hutchinson 2-17.

The Crayke reply fell short on 84-6, Graeme Dawson top-scoring with 19 against Ben Johnson (2-13) and Tom Storr (2-16).
