HEAVY rain caused a rare total washout in the Foss Evening Cricket League.
Officials were left lamenting a wet start to the summer after the complete abandonment of the league programme for "the first time in many a season".
Heading into this week's scheduled fixtures, Stamford Bridge lead the way in division one, with Dunnington Academy topping the second tier and Bishop Wilton heading division three.
A spokesman said: "The rain robbed the league of some intriguing encounters as the top two sides in both divisions two and three had been due to meet.
"Teams are hoping that the forecasted showery weather for this week does not further impact on what has already been another somewhat squelchy start to the English cricketing summer."
