A TOTAL of 299 runs were scored for the loss of only seven wickets as Melbourne beat Bubwith to stay top of division two in the Foss Evening Cricket League.

AJ Clarke hit a rapid 93 to take the leaders to 156-4 in 16 overs and hosts Bubwith responded strongly with unbeaten knocks from Richard Readman (70no) and Charlie Lambert (34no), but they were 13 runs short at 143-3.

Pocklington defeated the Retreat to leapfrog into second place.

Retreat’s batting star Salman Syed was again top-scorer with 48, but the visitors only posted 122-7 as Geoff Woodward took 4-24.

Pock chased down the runs with 13 balls and six wickets to spare thanks to Isaac Green (32), skipper Alex Downey (30no) and Josh Britland (25).

Osbaldwick grabbed defeat from the jaws of victory as they stuttered in the last over of their chase against Bishopthorpe, losing by one run.

Youngster Andrew Seager (60no) counteracted Alex Rippon’s 3-7 to allow the Bishops to post 99-7.

Osbaldwick then lost despite 45 from Jonny Rawsthorne.

Will Axup’s 78 not out condemned Ovington to defeat at Yapham.

Steve Littlewood (30) helped Ovington to 115-5 but Axup’s knock allowed Yapham to race home in 15 overs with three wickets to spare. James Whale took 4-11.

In division one, Stamford Bridge chalked up a first win since the opening week with a rapid run-chase against Heworth.

L Clancy made an unbeaten 28 in Heworth’s 104-5, while Natty Burge took 3-18.

David Chaplin (34no) and Andrew Healey (25no) then raced Stamford home in 11.1 overs with eight wickets to spare.

The other two matches in the top flight were unable to dodge the rain, with Dunnington’s game at Londesborough Park and Woodhouse Grange’s home game with Stockton & Hopgrove falling to the weather.

Aviva Vikings strengthened their case for an immediate return to division two by rattling up 11-an-over at Fulfordgate.

Sandeep Bhargava (91) and Abhishek Galoda (65no) helped Aviva post their mammoth total of 176-2 in 16 overs.

That proved too big a mountain for Fulfordgate, as S Bygott’s 39 retired was the top score in their 121-6.

York RI are enjoying life on the road with a third win in six.

Divoyd Smith (39) and Michael Charno (26) led RI to 151-7, despite 3-33 from Danny Tumman.

Smith then took 4-21 to help to restrict Retreat II to 102-6, Danny Cameron (40) and Pete Gent (30) making the runs.

Dunnington Academy continue to lead the division, defeating ten-man Askham Bryan by eight wickets.

J Archer (4-13) and Sam Gray (2-19) bundled Askham out for 70 before Dan Andrew (28) and Sam Clough (24no) saw the home side to victory.

Thixendale recorded a 42-run victory at Heworth Colts.

Thixendale made 115-7 before bowling out the Colts for 73.
