FORMER Nottingham Forest defender Des Lyttle has been appointed as York City’s new first-team coach, writes Dave Flett.

Lyttle, now 40, played under City’s management team of Gary Mills and Darron Gee at Tamworth before taking over as caretaker player-manager of the Lambs on the pair’s departure for Bootham Crescent in October 2010.

He was later appointed in that role permanently but resigned with four games of the 2010/11 season left to play when plans to bring in former Minstermen chief Martin Foyle as an advisor were leaked.

Lyttle also managed Hucknall Town in the Northern League premier division south last season, but is delighted to now be renewing acquaintances with Mills and Gee, saying: “It’s a pleasure to be here and I am really looking forward to the challenge of working in the League and with Gary and Darron again.”
