AN injury to key midfielder Scott Kerr provided the only blemish as York City booked their Wembley place in the FA Trophy final at Luton.

Kerr limped off with a knee problem midway through the first half after being clattered by Luton’s Keith Keane and the club are now waiting to hear whether there is ligament damage that could keep the former Lincoln City captain sidelined for the rest of the season.

Joint-top scorer Jason Walker was also substituted at the interval with a tight hamstring that should not prove as troublesome.

On the possibility of losing Kerr for the end-of-season run-in, Mills said: “Scott Kerr’s injury is a big blow for us going forward.

“It’s his knee and it’s not looking too good. He’s been incredible for us and I would go as far as saying that he has held us together over the last few months when we’ve not played how we wanted to do.

“He tried to give it another go after he was injured and perhaps only Scott would have done that because he was devastated to come off.”

Kerr was replaced by Scott Brown, who could now return to the starting line-up for Saturday’s vital home match with Blue Square Bet Premier play-off rivals Southport, who moved above City on Saturday.

On the former Everton trainee’s performance in Bedfordshire, Mills said: “Browny grew into the game. He’s not played a lot of football and it’s not easy coming into a match like that.

“He did well for me in a couple of games when he came here and not so well after that but his performance (at Luton) was a little reminder of what he can do and, if Scott Kerr is out now, he could get his chance to stay in.”
