YORK City manager Gary Mills has vowed to address his side’s clean sheet problem after dropping points at Bootham Crescent to Cambridge United last night.

The Minstermen drew 2-2 despite a hugely dominant display with the hosts managing 22 shots, compared to the visitors’ two – that both ended up in the home net.

It meant Mills’ entertaining side have now not managed a shut-out in six matches but the City boss still believes his team are on the verge of transforming from a “very good side into an excellent one”.

Jason Walker was again the hero last night, scoring an 89th-minute free-kick, having earlier levelled the scores after Harrison Dunk had opened the scoring for the visitors.

Ex-City striker Michael Gash headed the U’s into the lead before the interval but Jez George’s men were clinging on with left-back James Jennings sent off after Walker’s goal.

Mills said: “It took another bit of genius from a super striker late on to get us a point but I was only looking one way all night and we can’t keep giving goals away and having to come back. We had to do that on Saturday and had to do it again last night.

“They were poor goals to concede defensively and I have to address that. It’s not a major issue because my team plays the way it does and we are in the entertainment game but we do need clean sheets.

“That’s not pointing fingers at anybody but it’s taking the gloss off some unbelievably dominant performances. It’s a little thing that I know I can put right and, if we do, we won’t just be a very good team, we will be excellent.”
