GOALKEEPER Michael Ingham is hoping for a hat-trick of atonement when Luton Town come to call tonight.
After the dismay of fortress Bootham Crescent being breached by Tamworth for the first time under Gary Mills’ reign, it’s the Hatters who visit York City as they bid to get their play-off push back on a winning track.
Memories will go back to Kenilworth Road in January when the hosts inflicted a 5-0 drubbing upon City.
Number one Ingham was sent off early in the game that night, his dismissal followed by Luton’s opener from the resulting free-kick.
The Minstermen never recovered and the misery deepened as they finished the game with nine men after combative midfielder Jonathan Smith also saw red later on.
But as Ingham recalled, City have had a habit of avenging thumping away defeats.
A 5-0 loss at Mansfield, again where City were reduced to ten men, was made right in the return at the Crescent, as was the 4-0 loss at Newport’s Spytty Park – Mills’ marvels turning the tables with a 2-1 victory ten days ago.
Said Ingham: “We did it with Mansfield and after Newport done us four we came back and beat them here. We’ve got one left now and that’s Luton and we want to put things right against them.”
