YORK City manager Gary Mills praised his players for surviving ice-cold conditions to earn “a fantastic point” at Kidderminster.

The Aggborough clash was the only Blue Square Bet Premier fixture to beat the big freeze last night and the Minstermen held the home team to a 0-0 draw, Mills said: “We did not get the ball down and were not at our best, but it was difficult out there. I probably did not appreciate how difficult it was until I went on to the pitch at the end and it was atrocious. Both sets of players deserve credit for completing the game. We came through it by doing our jobs to get a fantastic point.”

City might have even enjoyed a fifth straight win, with substitute David McDermott hitting a post from 25 yards and seeing another long-range effort go close late on, with Mills adding: “We made a couple of changes and decided to throw David McDermott and Peter Till on a bit later and it nearly worked for us.”

Skipper Chris Smith missed last night’s match due to illness but Mills praised stand-in centre-back Greg Young, who helped City claim a fifth consecutive clean sheet.

The City chief said: “Greg came in and did well for us.”
