Cliffe Football Club clinched the East Riding County League division three title with a 6-2 win at home to Plexus Networking.

The sides were level at the interval after Baz Summers equalised the visitors’ opening goal.

Second half goals from Kev Taylor, Alan Jackson (2) and Tom Hogg (2) gave the Selby side the title.

Coach Bob Wilkinson said: “It was a thoroughly deserved win to take the title. The boys have worked extremely hard all season in training.

“At times they have played beyond their league status and, as head coach, I can ask for no more.”

Cliffe will be looking for a league and cup double when they take on Hemingbrough United for the Archie McCartney Memorial Trophy on Friday (6.30pm).

McCartney was involved with the Cliffe Playing Fields committee and the building of the Cliffe pavilion. He died in the late 1980s and was a supporter of both Hemingbrough and Cliffe and the sides are reviving the trophy tie after a gap of several years.
