SEASON-LONG loans are set to be targeted by York City manager Martin Foyle as he begins his summer rebuilding programme.

Foyle has already held extensive talks with possible new signings this week and regards the long-term loan market as one to be exploited by Blue Square Premier clubs.

In 2007, Aldershot signed teenage midfielder Scott Davies on loan from then Premiership outfit Reading and he proved a key figure in the Hampshire club’s title-winning return to the Football League. Oxford, meanwhile, acquired the services of Shrewsbury striker James Constable for nine months last term and he responded with 25 goals.

Foyle said: “There are so many players out there. Some teams in our division are signing people already, but they are paying for them and handing out long contracts.

“I don’t want to spend my budget and then miss out on somebody later on. We can also look at season-long loans.

“I spent eight hours in meetings with players on Tuesday and some are holding on and want to look around.

“With some, we might be their last choice, but so what if they are the right players and come back to me.

“We’re looking around everywhere and the chairman (Jason McGill) has been very good and given me a lot of names from his contacts with other chairmen. We are working closely together. I’ve also got my own contacts and people are giving me a lot of recommendations.”

Foyle is unlikely to pursue released Huddersfield winger Malvin Kamara, who he worked with at Port Vale, because of his similarities to Adam Smith.

City’s Blue Square Premier rivals Kidderminster are also being forced to listen to offers for their players because of a reduced budget, but previous KitKat Crescent target Justin Richards and fellow striker Matt Barnes-Homer are believed to be heading for League Two side Hereford.

Foyle, meanwhile, has reluctantly asked The Press to correct completely unfounded internet rumours of a rift with goalkeeper Michael Ingham.

He said: “I don’t read internet forums, but people have told me about this so-called fall out with Michael and it’s a bit sad really. It’s just so wrong and it stirs up trouble within the club that you can do without.

“Michael’s been great for me and we have a strong relationship. I will comment on internet gossip on this occasion, but I won’t be making a habit of it because it’s not worth it.”
