FORMER York City boss John Ward is poised to fill the managerial vacancy at League Two strugglers Port Vale.
Ward, who managed the Minstermen between 1991 and 1993, has been out of work since leaving Carlisle by mutual consent in November.
Vale fired Dean Glover last week at the end of a disappointing campaign in which he had earlier shared caretaker stewardship of the club with current City assistant boss Andy Porter.
Local media in Stoke announced last week that Porter, brought to KitKat Crescent in January by Martin Foyle, had contacted the club declaring an interest in succeeding Glover. But Foyle has revealed his number two’s quotes were misconstrued, adding: “Andy never applied for the job and never handed in his CV. He’s not spoken to anybody at Port Vale.
“He was just asked by a journalist whether he would be interested in going back there as manager one day – not now.”
