WEMBLEY-BOUND former York City striker Phil Bell is hoping to cheer his old club to victory on Saturday before gracing the famous stadium himself.

Bell, who made one league appearance for the Minstermen during a brief KitKat Crescent career two years ago, is a member of the Whitley Bay side that will face Glossop in Sunday’s FA Vase final.

The PE teacher has been invited to attend City’s FA Trophy clash with Stevenage as well and is hoping to be in the crowd as one-time team-mates Richard Brodie, David McGurk, Daniel Parslow and Ben Purkiss take the field.

Bell said: “There are a few lads still at York from when I was there so hopefully they can win. It would be good for the North East if we can have two winners that weekend.

“We have been invited to the game and it would be good to go along and support them.”
