KARTIERS held their nerve to beat holders Old Malton St Mary’s in a penalty shoot-out for the York FA Saturday Senior Cup.

The Selby side won 4-3 on spot-kicks after the final at Tockwith had been poised at 1-1 after extra time.

In the early stages, Dean Readman shot over the bar for Old Malton, while Kartiers went close through Louis Blackwell.

Blackwell then scuffed another good chance before half-time.

After the break, Kartiers stepped up a gear, with Marcin Wolski seeing his shot deflected wide, while team-mate James Topping also went close.

The Old Malton defence, led by the outstanding Simon Cooke, stood firm until midway through the second half.

They were undone by a fine move which ended with Wolski firing in a cross from the right for Glen Littlewood to score with a diving header.

Kartiers ’keeper Carl Blundell then produced a fine save to deny the Ryedale side, but they levelled in the last minute with a close-range header from substitute Neil Wilford.

There were seven bookings in the 90 minutes and, in extra time, Blackwell was red-carded as the game threatened to boil over.

Things calmed down and the game petered out towards a penalty shoot-out.

A fantastic one-handed save by Blundell secured the trophy for Kartiers.

They were presented with the Faber Cup by York FA president Roy Ellwood.
