MARTIN Foyle will have his players out on the KitKat Crescent pitch today as he continues his work to turn around York City’s football fortunes, writes Steve Carroll.

The squad will be playing each other in a practice match as Foyle puts his players to work despite their FA Trophy clash at Oxford United being abandoned because of a frozen pitch.

The second round cup match was called off after an inspection of the Kassam Stadium pitch yesterday afternoon revealed the surface to be unplayable.

The match will now be played on Tuesday (7.45pm kick off) with a replay, if required, staged a week later at KitKat Crescent.

Provided they are not involved in a Trophy replay, City will instead travel to Cumbria on January 20 for their rescheduled Setanta Shield fourth round tie at Barrow.

Following Tuesday’s postponement of City’s Blue Square Premier trip to Weymouth – a cancellation which The Press revealed earlier this week left the Minstermen facing a £6,000 bill – Foyle says the latest setback is “frustrating”.

But he is looking to take the positives out of the situation and is relishing the chance to further instil his methods and tactics on the training ground.

“It is frustrating but it is the same for everyone,” Foyle said. “We did get on the grass (yesterday) and we will be on the KitKat Crescent pitch today for a practice match.

“We’ve been training quite hard. The players will be able to relax and show us what they can do.

“It would have been quite easy to give them the weekend off but we are not in the position to give players two days off. When the results come, the rewards come.”
