ADAM HINSHELWOOD believes that neither York City or Aldershot Town did enough to deserve a win after a 0-0 draw at the EBB Stadium.
York were left frustrated after failing to take their opportunities, with Tyrese Sinclair flashing an effort wide ten minutes into the contest.
A superb performance from Aldershot goalkeeper Marcus Dewhurst kept out a potential own goal from Cameron Hargreaves, before the resulting corner was headed goalwards by Callum Howe, and again kept out by the Shots’ goalkeeper.
Aldershot also will have felt that they could have taken all three points, with Josh Barrett taking the ball around Rory Watson, before missing the target in the six-yard box.
Hinshelwood believes that neither side showed the attacking quality to win the match in North Hampshire, but was pleased to add a sixth clean sheet of the season to the Minstermen’s roster.
“I think that both teams tried to win the game, so it was a good game in my opinion,” Hinshelwood admitted.
“It was end-to-end, I don’t think either team did enough on the day.
“It’s six clean sheets out of ten, so that’s a real positive.
“We were still solid enough, I think that we defended the box really well and there were some good blocks.
“Cam John, when he came on, we tried to change it around a little bit and it didn’t quite work for us.
“were a couple of openings, but ultimately we look at effort on goal and shots on target.
“It was poor from us today, for the amountt of times we got the ball into the final third, if you compare them having shots on target to us, it’s definitely an area for us to look at.
“We couldn’t [get the goal] today, it just didn’t quite go for us.
“What unbelievable saves, but it’s come from more there players than it has our, except for Callum Howe from the set-piece.
“Like I keep saying, there is plenty for us to work on, we’re by no means the finished article.
“We’ve got loads to improve on still, and today’s game was one that would compliment that really.”
Hinshelwood was impressed by the defensive aspects of his York side this afternoon, and in particular Callum Howe, who commanded his area and helped City keep the score at bay when facing late pressure from the hosts.
The York boss enthused: “He was [superb]. When the game is uncomfortable like it was today, he receives the ball under pressure.
“It’s not always going to be nice and teams aren’t always going to sit off of us or let us spread the ball about, when the game is like this, you have to be counted on to work hard to get on the ball.
“We didn’t have enough of that today in my opinion.
“We can’t be too critical, you’ll get these games in the National League as it is a tough league, as I keep saying.
“We try to do all we can to win games of football, we tried that today and it didn’t go our way in the end.”
The first-half was marred by an injury to Aldershot captain Ollie Harfield, who unfortunately clattered into the advertising boards off of the back of a challenge from Sinclair.
Harfield was forced off of the pitch on a stretcher as a result, with Hinshelwood believing that the ramifications of the injury affected Sinclair for the remainder of his time on the pitch.
“We wish the lad really well, it doesn’t look to great.
“It’s someone who had had a lot of injuries in his career and it’s never nice to see that.
“Maybe it did affect Ty today, I just tried to say to him that it’s pass and parcel of football unfortunately.
“Nobody likes to see it, no one likes to be in and around that area when it happens.
“I thought he did well to get it out of his system, because I could definitely see it affecting him.”
Hinshelwood would go on to explain the decision-making process behind his one change to the starting eleven, with Watson coming in for Harrison Male.
It was another clean sheet for Watson and York, but the City boss admitted that Male was potentially the better fit for the contest.
Hinshelwood explained: “Coming away from home, I knew that we was going to be put under pressure.
“We tried to mix it up, I thought that they were going to play a few more longer passes.
“They tried it in the first-half as soon as we became quite aggressive on the press, they tried to bypass it.
“It’s not always going to work for us, and maybe today, H might have been suited better for us to play through the lines a little bit.
“It’s another clean sheet for those two, so it’s a real positive start for the pair of them.
“It’s now six out of ten, which I’m really pleased with.”
